Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Response

Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
