Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
