Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.

The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”

“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, he revealed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. The forward was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Not a single person will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
