Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He defended 4 initial break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
