The President Invites Relatives of Attacked Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence

President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Devastating Event

US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Reaction

Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in DC.

Remembering the Soldier

“She was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the press. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”

Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Government Changes

Authorities have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy led the government to halt asylum processing and cease issuing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to his relatives.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
